Q. Why does NYC have a lot of co-operative buildings ?
A. Just over a century ago … Finnish folks in 1916 who were skeptical of bankers (aka the banksters of their time) decided to pool together their efforts and build roofs over their heads (vs. renting in tenements).
The co-op idea took hold and spread far and wide in NYC … to the Bronx, to Queens and to tony Park Avenue in Manhattan … here’s the link to WNYC :
